CDS is a concentrated aqueous solution at 0.3% (3000 ppm) of chlorine dioxide, free of sodium chlorite (NaClO2) and with a neutral pH.
What is Chlorine Dioxide
Chlorine dioxide is a chemical substance commonly used for drinking water treatment. It is used to eliminate pathogens present in water. The FDA, the WHO and other agencies worldwide permit its use as a disinfectant for treating water intended for human consumption, within the concentration limits laid down.
It is important to distinguish between gas and aqueous solution: as a gas it can be dangerous because it is reactive in air; in water it is not reactive and remains dissolved up to 0.3%.
The Facts
It is not chlorine (Cl2), bleach, hypochlorite (NaClO), or sodium chlorite (NaClO2), nor does it contain them. It is not CD, or a mixture of 2 components; it is only pure chlorine dioxide gas dissolved in water.
Chlorine dioxide is produced in different ways and the result is not the same. Unlike a mixture containing Sodium Chlorite (NaClO2) with an acid, CDS does not contain sodium chlorite and therefore produces no by-products when used dissolved in water.
The Main Advantage of CDS
The main advantage of chlorine dioxide in CDS form is its neutral pH and safety. Unlike other chlorine-based products (Cl2), chlorine dioxide does not produce toxic and carcinogenic trihalomethanes (THMs) and is considered ideal for eliminating all types of pathogens.
Chlorine dioxide acts by oxidation on the microorganisms present in water.
